Olympics 2024: O's game blog: O's face Guardians in Game 2 of the series

Let's dive into the latest action between the Cleveland Guardians and the Baltimore Orioles. It’s been a rough go for the Orioles whenever they face the Guardians, who are not just leading the American League Central but also have the best record in the AL.

Last night was a tough game for Baltimore. Cleveland was on fire, smashing three home runs that brought in eight of their ten runs. The game ended with a 10-3 victory for the Guardians. David Fry and Bo Naylor each hit three-run homers, and José Ramírez chipped in with a two-run shot. This win means the Guardians are 3-1 against the Orioles this season, and they've taken seven of the last eleven games between these teams. In their last 45 matchups, Cleveland has a dominant 30-15 record against Baltimore.

The Guardians are currently flying high with a 66-42 record, including an impressive 34-15 at home. They’re on a hot streak, winning their last four games and seven out of their last nine. The Orioles, meanwhile, have been a bit up and down. They’ve scored 42 runs in their last six games, which is great, leading to a 4-2 record. But looking at their last 12 games, they're 5-7, and since June 21, they’re at 16-20. Despite this, they’re still tied for first in the AL East with the Yankees, both holding a 65-45 record.

Tonight should be interesting with Dean Kremer taking the mound for the Orioles. Kremer’s had a mixed season with a 4-7 record and a 4.20 ERA. In his last game against San Diego, he allowed only one earned run over six innings, which is pretty solid. However, he hasn’t done well against Cleveland historically, with an 0-2 record and a 6.23 ERA. On the other side, Carlos Carrasco is pitching for the Guardians. He’s had a tough time recently, giving up 12 runs over his last two starts. His season record isn’t great either, at 3-9 with a 5.68 ERA.

Now, let’s talk about some Orioles players who’ve been in the spotlight. Colton Cowser is on a roll with a 14-game hitting streak, batting .385 during this stretch. Adley Rutschman, though, has hit a rough patch, going just 2-for-24 over his last seven games. Gunnar Henderson seems to be getting his groove back with a current eight-game hitting streak. Cedric Mullins has also been doing well lately, batting .389 over his last six games.

And then there’s Anthony Santander, who’s been a real powerhouse. He hit his 32nd homer last night and has reached base in 19 consecutive games. With three homers in the last five games and 23 since June 1, he’s second only to Aaron Judge in home runs in the AL since 2022.

So, while the Orioles have a tough challenge ahead with the red-hot Guardians, they’ve got some key players who could make a difference. Let’s see how tonight’s game plays out!
